Arjun Modhwadia for Porbandar
Arjun Modhvadiya entered public life in 1997. Dedicated to public service, he was elected as a legislator for the first time from the Porbandar Assembly constituency in 2002. With a complete command of oratory skills and a commitment to his duties, Shri Arjun Modhvadiya served as an opposition leader in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly from 2004 to 2007. He diligently raised and addressed the concerns of the people in the Assembly, fulfilling his responsibilities as a responsible opposition leader.
He was re-elected as a legislator from Porbandar in 2007. In the 2022 Assembly elections, the people of Porbandar elected Arjun Modhvadiya for the third time, giving him a decisive mandate to serve the public. In 2024, he aligned with the Bharatiya Janata Party to realize the dreams of a developed Porbandar as a part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a developed India. In the legislative election, he achieved a historic victory with 1,16,808 votes, establishing a new benchmark in Gujarat’s electoral history. Arjun Modhvadiya received a total of 1,33,163 votes (86% of total votes), setting a record as the sole candidate in Gujarat’s history to secure such a high percentage of votes.
Early Life & Career
He graduated with a mechanical engineering degree from Lukhdhirji Engineering College in Morbi. He became a Senate member of Saurashtra University as a Registered Graduate constituency representative from 1982 to 2002. In 1988, he also joined the university’s executive council. He was an assistant engineer with the Gujarat Maritime Board for ten years. He left his job in 1993 and entered politics. He is married to Hiraben and has a son and a daughter.
He has been associated with Maldevji Odedra Smarak Trust and Dr Viram Godhania Mahila Arts, Commerce, Home Science, and Computer Science College since 1988. He has been the president of Gramya Bharati High School, Bayavadar, since 2002 and a trustee of Sorath Kshay Nivaran Samiti, Keshod, an organization working for Tuberculosis patients, since 2004.

In March 2024, Modhwadia quit the Indian National Congress ending his 40 years of association with the party, and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in the presence of BJP Gujarat State unit President C. R. Patil.
Mission City
One of the most remarkable achievements has been the inclusion of Porbandar in the list of historical cities chosen for infrastructure development. Shri Modhwadia, had taken up the matter with Prime Minister and then Union Urban Development Minister.
As a ‘Mission city’, Porbandar can avail 80 per cent of the central funding and only 20 per cent will have to be arranged by it from its own resources. Following is the list of grants that Porbandar will get under this programme.
- Rs. 70.29 crore for new pipelines for drinking water, overhead water tank, underground water tank and pumping machinery at Porbandar City and Bokhira
- Rs. 128.10 crore for underground sewage system
- Rs. 180.99 crore for city rainwater drainage system
- Rs. 367.57 crore for construction of roads and flyovers in Porbandar City
- Rs. 77.77 crore for construction of 2448 residential sheds for the city poor
- Rs. 14.63 crore for solid waste treatment and management
- Rs. 10.40 crore for novelizing street lights in the city
- Rs. 5.06 crore for heritage tourism development
- Rs. 17.77 crore for social amenities
- Total: Rs. 872.58 crore
