Biography
Mr. Arjunbhai Devabhai Modhwadia was born on February 17, 1957, in the village of Modhwada in Porbandar. He spent his childhood in a humble farmer’s family with two brothers and two sisters. From a young age, Mr. Arjunbhai developed qualities of humility and respect towards people. Being the son of a farmer, Mr. Arjunbhai Modhwadia understands the importance of hard work. Therefore, until his education was complete, he assisted his father in farming. His experience working at the grassroots level still keeps him connected to the land.
Mr. Arjunbhai Modhwadia completed his primary education at the government school in his village, Modhwada. In 1982, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from L.E. College of Morbi. His commitment to education is evident from the fact that from 1982 to 2002, he was elected as a member of the Senate and Syndicate of Saurashtra University, Rajkot. During his tenure at the university, he actively participated in efforts to improve the quality of education. In 1988, he was elected as a member of the Executive Council of the university.
After his engineering studies, he worked for almost 10 years as an Assistant Engineer at the Gujarat Maritime Board. Many of his colleagues from this period have gone on to have successful careers as maritime engineers. Mr. Arjun Modhwadia could have followed a similar path, but his life’s goal was public service. Therefore, in 1993, he left his job and fully dedicated his life to public service.
Mr. Arjun Modhwadia entered public life in 1997. Committed to public service, he was first elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Porbandar constituency in 2002. Known for his oratory skills and eagerness to fulfill his duties, Mr. Arjun Modhwadia was appointed as the Leader of the Opposition in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly from 2004 to 2007. He effectively raised the issues of the people of Gujarat in the assembly and responsibly fulfilled his role as the Leader of the Opposition. He was re-elected as an MLA from the Porbandar constituency in 2007. In the 2022 legislative assembly elections, the people of Porbandar elected Mr. Arjunbhai Modhwadia for the third time, giving him the opportunity to continue his public service.
In 2024, as part of the vision of a developed India by the successful Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mr. Arjunbhai Modhwadia joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to realize the dream of a developed Porbandar. He won the by-election with a historic margin of 116,808 votes, setting a new record. In this election, Mr. Arjunbhai Modhwadia received a total of 133,163 votes (86% of the total votes), which is also a record for the highest percentage of votes received by a single candidate in the history of Gujarat.
Mr. Arjunbhai Modhwadia has a deep affection for his people, which continuously inspires him to work for them. Along with public life, he is also involved in education, health, and public trusts. He is a founding member and trustee of the Maldevji Odeara Memorial Trust. This trust manages Dr. V. R. Godhaniya Women’s Arts, Commerce, Home Science, and Computer Science College, and other educational institutions in Porbandar. He is also the president of Gramya Bharti High School, Bagvadar. Additionally, he serves as a trustee of the ‘Sorath Tuberculosis Prevention Committee,’ which manages a hospital for TB patients in Keshod, fulfilling his responsibilities skillfully.

1982

1993
After graduation, Shri Arjun Modhwadia started his professional career as an Assistant Engineer with Gujarat Maritime Board for almost 10 years. He could have continued with the same and ended-up being a very successful maritime engineer. But his motto of life was more selfless than this. In 1993 he quit his job and devoted himself completely to public service.
1997
Mr. Arjun Modhwadia joined public life in 1997. Dedicated to public service, he stepped into active politics, where he has played a significant role. Over the years, he has been involved in various political and social initiatives, contributing to the development and welfare of his community and the broader public. His commitment to public service has been evident through his active participation in political activities.
2002
Mr. Arjunbhai Modhwadia was first elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Porbandar constituency in 2002. With his excellent oratory skills and eagerness to fulfill his duties, Mr. Arjun Modhwadia was given the opportunity to serve as the Leader of the Opposition in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly from 2004 to 2007. During his tenure, Mr. Modhwadia effectively presented the issues of the people of Gujarat in the assembly, fulfilling his role as a responsible Leader of the Opposition.
2022
In the 2022 legislative assembly elections, the people of Porbandar once again placed their trust in Mr. Arjunbhai Modhwadia by electing him for the third time. This victory provided him with yet another opportunity to continue his dedicated service to the public. His consistent re-election is a testament to his effective leadership, unwavering commitment to public service, and the deep connection he has with the residents of Porbandar.
2024
In 2024, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to fulfill the dream of a developed Porbandar, aligning with the vision of a developed India by the successful Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
