About Shri Arjun Modhwadia
Shri Arjunbhai Modhwadia was born on 17th of February 1957 in the village of Modhwada. He had a modest upbringing along with his siblings, two brothers and one sister.
Since his initial days, Arjunbhai was taught the lesson of humility and respect for others. Being a ‘Son of Soil’, Arjunbhai knew the meaning of hard work and thus helped his father in the fields till the completion of his studies. The experience of working at the grass-root still keeps him grounded.
Shri Arjun Modhwadia graduated as a Mechanical Engineer from Lakhdeersinhji Engineering College, Morbi, in the year 1982. After completing his engineering studies, Mr. Arjun Modhwadia worked for about 10 years as an Assistant Engineer at the Gujarat Maritime Board. However, his life’s goal was public service. Therefore, in 1993, he left his job to fully dedicate his life to public service. Committed to serving the people, he was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Porbandar constituency for the first time in 2002.

1982
He completed his primary education at the government school in his village, Modhwada. In 1982, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from L.E. College of Morbi. His commitment to education is evident from the fact that from 1982 to 2002, he was elected as a member of the Senate and Syndicate of Saurashtra University. During his tenure at the university, he actively participated in efforts to improve the quality of education. In 1988, he was elected as a member of the Executive Council of the university.
1993
After graduation, Shri Arjun Modhwadia started his professional career as an Assistant Engineer with Gujarat Maritime Board for almost 10 years. He could have continued with the same and ended-up being a very successful maritime engineer. But his motto of life was more selfless than this. In 1993 he quit his job and devoted himself completely to public service.
1997
Mr. Arjun Modhwadia joined public life in 1997. Dedicated to public service, he stepped into active politics, where he has played a significant role. Over the years, he has been involved in various political and social initiatives, contributing to the development and welfare of his community and the broader public. His commitment to public service has been evident through his active participation in political activities.
2002
Mr. Arjunbhai Modhwadia was first elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Porbandar constituency in 2002. With his excellent oratory skills and eagerness to fulfill his duties, Mr. Arjun Modhwadia was given the opportunity to serve as the Leader of the Opposition in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly from 2004 to 2007. During his tenure, Mr. Modhwadia effectively presented the issues of the people of Gujarat in the assembly, fulfilling his role as a responsible Leader of the Opposition.
2022
In the 2022 legislative assembly elections, the people of Porbandar once again placed their trust in Mr. Arjunbhai Modhwadia by electing him for the third time. This victory provided him with yet another opportunity to continue his dedicated service to the public. His consistent re-election is a testament to his effective leadership, unwavering commitment to public service, and the deep connection he has with the residents of Porbandar.
2024
In 2024, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to fulfill the dream of a developed Porbandar, aligning with the vision of a developed India by the successful Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He won the assembly by-election with a historic margin of 116,808 votes, setting a new record. In this election, Mr. Arjunbhai Modhwadia received a total of 133,163 votes (86% of the total votes), marking a record for the highest percentage of votes received by a single candidate in Gujarat’s history.
In March 2024, Modhwadia quit the Indian National Congress ending his 40 years of association with the party, and
joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in the presence of BJP Gujarat State unit President C. R. Patil.
